Caps Lock, Shift, and Ctrl keys stop working

When using VMware Player on my Ubuntu 8.04 system, my Caps Lock, Shift, and Ctrl keys occasionally stop working outside the virtual machine. As a work around, run setxkbmap from a terminal.
